What is Home Elevator? According to Indian Standard Code IS15 259 It is a Safe & Self-Contained Lift, specially designed for self-contained dwelling, which includes apartments and houses, where people can move in and out with ease. It provides maximum safety and security to the people who use it but does not need any extra approval for usage. The common types of such lifts are:
Vacuum Elevators: These Home Elevator is of two types - mechanical and hydraulic. They are of various models and provide maximum safety to the people. The vacuum system uses positive displacement pump, which is responsible for pushing the passengers towards the direction of exit. The hydraulic one uses motor, counter balance and wheel with helical turn mechanism. The main benefit of vacuum type of elevator is that they do not create any noise or dust.
Rollated Elevators: This type of elevator is mainly used for providing more legibility to the handicapped. It provides the best support to the individual and reduces the chance of any injury due to its heavy weight. There are two different types of roll up elevators, namely tube and rack and pinion. In most of the rack and pinion systems the rack is attached to the bottom track while pinion system has a single track rack attached to both the ends of the track. Such elevators are mostly used for providing mobility to those who cannot climb stairs.
Other than this there are different elevator types such as stairway elevator, vertical lift and inclined lift. Stairway Elevators: These are used to elevate the staircases from ground level to the top of the stairs. Usually, they are placed on the side of the stairways and are lifted by manual power. In stairway elevators the distance from the landing to the threshold is less than the stairs itself, thus enabling easy movement of the patient from one floor to another.
Vertical Elevators: These are manually operated elevators that provide the push or pull power to move the elevator shaft. They help in moving the entire elevator car vertically. In addition to this there are various counterweights, which can be fitted on the elevator cars for supporting them when not in use. The counterweights are fixed above the elevator shaft and prevent the elevator car from tipping over.
Most of the people prefer to go for either rack or pinion elevator types. They provide maximum comfort to the users due to their extra features like footrests, hand held controls etc. The traction elevator provides the maximum amount of comfort to the elderly and pregnant women. In the traction elevator the feet of the user are placed at the centre of the counterweight assembly, thereby counteracting the effect of gravity. Thus these three elevator types offer the end user a variety of features.
